Recovery is possible. (x)
I was going to put this in a read more, but it is too important to express the reason why I made this graphic.
I made this purely to show you visually, how far Demi has come. There are a lot of things out there on Tumblr that essentially promote SH (people can argue they don’t and they are free to post whatever - which they are- but if you are posting photos of your cuts, what else are you doing if not normalizing the sight for others?) and I find it really heartbreaking because people often get dragged into something that is seriously self destructive. {Before you say I don’t know what I am talking about, please understand I struggled with SH since I was 12. Thankfully, clean now, and a huge part of that is thanks to Demi.}
I am not promoting SH. I’m doing the complete opposite. No matter who you are, or where you are at with your issues, you can recover. It’s not easy but you are worth it. You’re worth so much more than harming yourself.
Every time I’m editing photos and I come across a photo where Demi’s scars are very evident, its literally heartbreaking. To think of all the pain she was in.
If you’ve never struggled with SI/SH (whatever is grammatically correct these days) or you don’t know of anyone who ever has, you might not understand, and that’s ok, you’re not expected to. It’s complex. But you have to realize the amount of pain someone has to be in to physically harm themselves. I don’t believe any of this nonsense when people say some just do it for attention.. no.. no one who really battles SH issues does it for attention. It might not seem like a big deal to you, maybe they only just scratch the surface of their skin, but why does that make their pain or issue any less severe than someone who cuts extremely deep? .. It doesn’t.
Anyway the reason I made this was not to point out Demi’s flaws or the fact she used to cut and how sad that is etc etc.. No. I made it to point out where she is today. She’s been so open about her issues and I think it gives a lot of people hope if they are trying to deal with the same things. So this graphic is exactly that, HOPE. It can get better, and it does. So don’t look up to Demi because she used to have SH issues.. LOOK UP TO HER BC SHE HAS SURPASSED THESE ISSUES.. as can you. Trust me. It’s not easy, as Demi has admitted herself, but everyone is capable and worthy of recovery. ♥♥♥
